7 Best Beaches in Bali For the Perfect Island Escape, Indonesia

Bali has captured the hearts of travelers from all corners of the globe with its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and gorgeous beaches.

Who wouldn’t want to trade their work desk for a hammock on a sandy shore in Bali? Whether you’re all about catching waves that make your heart race, or you’re just looking to lounge around with a cocktail in hand, Bali’s best beaches make it well worth the trip.

I’ve done my fair share of beach hopping in Bali, and I’m here to spill the beans on the 7 absolute best beaches that had me going “wow”.

From killer surf spots to those lesser-known spots, it’s time to dive in and discover Bali’s best beaches.

Let’s ride those waves, soak up the sun, and get lost in the tropical paradise that is Bali!

Bali Sunset Seminayk Beach

   1. Seminyak Beach
Seminyak stands out as the trendsetter among Bali’s beaches. This beach doesn’t hold back when it comes to pampering travellers. From lavish resorts, top-tier restaurants to entertainment.

For those like me who enjoy a little retail therapy, Seminyak’s fashion stores and boutiques are the perfect way to take a break from the sun. But here’s the real gem – Seminyak is about getting away from the hustle and bustle. If you’re in the mood for a quieter beach away from the touristy crowds, Seminyak is a good choice.

Couples looking for a more intimate setting often head to Petitenget Beach, making it a top choice for honeymooners seeking a romantic escape.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the sunsets! Seminyak beach sunsets are one of my most memorable experiences. The sky turns bright hues of orange, purple and pink, it’s an incredible sight.

And hey, if you’re into exploring diverse cuisines, you’re in for a treat.  The area surrounding Seminyak is home to the famous “eat street,” a hub of eateries dishing out a variety of mouthwatering cuisines.

So, whether you’re a shopper, a food lover, or a couple seeking a romantic haven, Seminyak Beach has your name written all over it.

   2. Canggu Beach
Alright, fellow surf junkies and beach enthusiasts, let’s dive into one of my favourite beaches, Canggu Beach. This is the spot where you can ride the waves in the morning and soak in the chill atmosphere as the sun goes down.

First things first, the surf. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a total newbie, there’s a wave with your name on it. The feeling of catching that perfect wave and riding it like you’re one with the ocean – trust me, it’s an experience that’ll make you feel alive.

But hey, Canggu isn’t just about surfboards and salty hair. You can spend your day lounging on the black sand shores, watching surfers do their thing, and just soaking in the good vibes.

As the sun starts to dip below the horizon, Canggu transforms into a whole new scene. The beach bars come alive, the music gets groovy, and of course, the sunsets. Nearly as spectacular as Seminyak sunsets!

There’s just something about watching the sun disappear into the sea while sipping on a cold drink with friends, sharing stories from the day.

But wait, there’s more! The streets nearby are buzzing with cafes, boutiques, and yoga studios. And there are plenty of fantastic places to stay in Canggu, from beachfront villas to budget-friendly stays, making it the perfect place to set up for your vacation.

   3. Kelingking Beach
Next up we have Kelingking Beach, a hidden gem that’s like something out of a dream. Take a day trip and prepare to be captivated by dramatic cliffs, pristine white sands, and a sense of adventure.

Now, let’s talk about the journey to this magical paradise. Getting to Kelingking Beach involves a bit of a trek, but trust me, every step is worth it.

As you navigate through rugged terrain and lush landscapes, you’ll start to catch glimpses of what’s in store. And then, as you stand at the edge of the cliffs and look down, that’s when it hits you – this place is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

The cliffs at Kelingking Beach form the shape of a T-Rex, giving it its adorable nickname “T-Rex Bay.” The white sands against the turquoise waters create a picture-perfect postcard setting that seems almost too good to be true. Make sure to bring your camera or charge your phone to take plenty of photos!

Now, fair warning: the journey down to the beach isn’t a walk in the park. But for the adventure-seekers among us, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget.

Kelingking Beach is a place that invites you to step off the beaten path, challenge your limits, and to discover the kind of beauty that only nature can create. So pack your hiking shoes, your sense of wonder, and get ready to uncover a hidden gem that’s bound to steal your heart.

   4. Batu Belig Beach
Next up is, Batu Belig Beach, a slice of Bali’s coastline that’s all about combining paradise with sheer opulence.

If you’re looking for an experience that’s equal parts extravagant and breathtaking, this is the spot for you. So, here’s the deal – Batu Belig Beach isn’t just a regular beach; it’s home to the iconic Potato Head beach club. And trust me, this isn’t your average hangout. The infinity pool seems to blend endlessly with the ocean, creating the perfect place to chill out with friends or family, drink in hand.

The vibes at Batu Belig Beach are electric. The music pumps, the sunsets are epic, and you’re surrounded by a lively, upbeat atmosphere. Kick back by the pool with a cocktail in hand and look out to the beach of an afternoon, it’s pure bliss.

The beach club isn’t the only thing that’s got this place on the map. Batu Belig Beach itself boasts soft sands that invite you to stretch out and soak in the sun. The waves here are pretty gentle, perfect for swimming.

   5. Nusa Dua Beach
If you’re in the mood for a beach experience that’s all about tranquillity, crystal-clear waters, and pampering vibes, Nusa Dua Beach is where it’s at.

The waters here are so clear and calm, it’s the kind of place where you can take a swim, snorkel around to explore the underwater world, or simply float in the gentle waves.

And the sands? You can take long walks along the shoreline, build sandcastles, or just lay back and soak in the sun with a good book. It’s the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle.

But Nusa Dua Beach isn’t just about relaxation; it’s also about luxury. The area around the beach is home to some of Bali’s most exquisite resorts and hotels. If you’re in the mood for a bit of pampering, you’ve got it. Whether it’s a spa treatment or a beachfront massage, you’ll find yourself in the lap of pure indulgence.

And hey, let’s not forget the food. The beachside cafes and restaurants offer a range of dishes, from local flavors to international delights.

   6. Uluwatu Beach
Let’s now journey to Uluwatu Beach – one of the best beaches in Bali where the thrill of surfing blends seamlessly with the spiritual essence of Bali. If you’re seeking adventure in the waves and a touch of Balinese charm, this is the beach that’ll have you saying “wow”.

Let’s start with the surf, shall we? Uluwatu Beach draws surfers from around the world. The waves here are legendary, drawing in pros and beginners alike who are eager to conquer the Balinese surfing and experience the rush of riding those swells. If you’re a thrill-seeker, this is your playground.

But Uluwatu Beach is more than just a surf spot; it’s also a place of spiritual significance. Perched atop the cliffs that frame the beach is the iconic Uluwatu Temple. The temple is a captivating spit, not just for its architecture but also for the panoramic views it offers. As the sun sets, the temple takes on a gorgeous glow, and you can catch traditional Kecak dance performances that only add to the experience.

As you make your way down to the beach, the stunning cliffscape will leave you in awe. The towering rock formations against the backdrop of the ocean create a scene that’s straight out of a movie.

   7. Jimbaran Bay

Last but by no means least, let’s set our sights on Jimbaran Bay. If you’re looking for a beach experience that’s all about culinary delights and relaxing vibes, Jimbaran Bay is your ticket to beachside bliss.

Let’s start with the feasting, shall we? Jimbaran Bay is renowned for its seafood feasts that are fit for royalty. Picture this: tables set up right on the sand, with candlelight flickering as the sun dips below the horizon.

Freshly grilled seafood, succulent prawns, delectable fish, need I go on. And as you savor each bite, the sound of the waves becomes the backdrop to a meal that’s nothing short of unforgettable.

But Jimbaran Bay isn’t just a paradise for foodies; it’s also a haven for relaxation. The beach’s gentle waves and soft sands create an atmosphere that makes it perfect for a leisurely stroll, a beachside nap, or simply soaking in the sun’s warmth. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, at least for me it did!

And then there’s the sunset. Oh, the sunset! Jimbaran Bay offers some of the most mesmerizing sunset views you’ll ever witness. As the sky transforms into a palette of hues – oranges, pinks, and purples – you’ll find yourself lost in the sheer beauty of the moment. It’s a scene that’s straight out of a postcard, a memory that you’ll carry with you long after you’ve left the shores.

And here’s the kicker – Jimbaran Bay isn’t just about the daytime fun; it’s also about the nights that follow. The beach transforms into a lively hub of activity, with live music, beachfront bars, and an atmosphere that’s alive with energy. Whether you’re looking to dance the night away or simply enjoy a cocktail by the shore, Jimbaran’s nightlife scene has you covered.

FAQs: Best Beaches In Bali

Let’s now finish up with a few commonly asked questions about the best beaches in Bali.

Which coast of Bali has the best beaches?
The best beaches in Bali are found along multiple coasts, each with its own unique charm and offerings. But I have found that most of the best beaches in Bali are in the south. This south coast is famous for its surfing spots, vibrant nightlife, and luxurious beach clubs. It’s ideal for those seeking a mix of energetic beach activities, relaxation, swimming,  trendy bars, and stylish resorts. I recommend the southern coast for first-timers in Bali.

You can hit up beaches like Kuta and Jimbaran, or explore nearby islands like Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.

The southwest coast, which stretches from the airport to Canggu, is also bustling with activity and packed with visitors, including Legian, and Seminyak.

If you head to the eastern coast of Bali, some beaches like Amed might be rocky, while others, such as Lovina in the north and Canggu in the south, have grey sand.

Are beaches free in Bali?
Yes, most beaches in Bali are free to access. The majority of beaches in Bali, especially those that are not part of private resorts, are open to the public and do not charge an entrance fee. This means you can enjoy the natural beauty of the beaches, swim, sunbathe, and stroll along the shoreline without breaking the bank.

That being said, some beach clubs and luxury resorts situated along the beach may charge an entrance fee, especially if they provide amenities such as loungers, umbrellas, swimming pools, and other facilities. These fees often include access to the club’s amenities and services.

When is the best time to go to the beach in Bali?
Bali has a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.

Dry Season (April to October)

This is generally considered the best time to visit Bali’s beaches. The weather is sunny and dry, making it ideal for sunbathing and swimming. The ocean is calmer during this period, making it great for snorkeling and diving. Keep in mind that the dry season is also the peak tourist season, so beaches can be more crowded, and accommodation prices may be higher.

If you’re a surfer, the best time to catch great waves in Bali is during the dry season when the consistent swells arrive. Different parts of the island receive waves of varying sizes, so your choice of beach will depend on your skill level and the type of waves you’re seeking.

Rainy Season (November to March)

While this period sees more rainfall, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to enjoy the beaches. Rain usually comes in short bursts and is often followed by sunshine. The beaches might be less crowded, and you might find better deals on accommodation and activities. However, the ocean can be rougher during the rainy season. I visited during November, and whilst it was scorching hot, we didn’t experience much rain at all and the beaches were perfect for swimming and relaxing by,

Overall, the dry season from April to October is widely considered the most favorable time to visit the best beaches in Bali due to the pleasant weather and calm ocean conditions.

However, if you don’t mind occasional rain showers and prefer a quieter atmosphere, the rainy season can also offer its own unique charm and there are many other essential things to do in Bali besides visiting the beaches!
